Terms of use
The agreement, in plain sentences.
Last updated 31 August 2026. These terms cover the Megahertz iPhone app, the browser demo at megahertz.closiq.app/play, and this website. By using any of them you agree to them. If you do not, do not use them.
Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the iPhone app and is available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where these terms and Apple's disagree, Apple's govern your use of the app itself.
1. What you get
Closiq grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Megahertz for your own entertainment on devices you own or control. We keep ownership of the game, its code, its art, its audio, its text and its name; you keep ownership of nothing except the licence to play.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the game, reverse-engineer it except as the law expressly allows despite a term like this one, or use it to build a competing product. You may absolutely stream it, record it, screenshot it, write about it and make videos about it, monetised or not, without asking us.
2. No account
Megahertz has no accounts, no login and no registration. Nothing here obliges you to give us any information about yourself, and there is nowhere in the product to provide it. Your progress is kept on your device and mirrored to your own iCloud account. See the privacy policy.
3. Purchases
Everything purchasable in Megahertz is bought through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple is the merchant of record. We never see your payment details.
Consumable items, which are Chips and Etch carats, are credited to the save on the device where they were bought and are consumed when spent. They do not restore in the way a permanent item does, because Apple's restore mechanism does not carry consumables; the iCloud mirror is what carries them between your devices.
Permanent items, which are the tools, the desk sets and any bundle, restore on every device signed in to the same Apple Account, at any time, from the Restore Purchases button in the shop footer or in Settings.
Refunds are Apple's to grant, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to issue one, and we do not contest them. If Apple revokes a purchase, the corresponding item is removed from the game.
4. The Uptime Pass subscription
The Uptime Pass is an auto-renewing subscription sold in two lengths. This section is the part of these terms most worth reading before you buy.
| Plan | Length | Free trial |
|---|---|---|
| Uptime Pass | One month, renewing monthly | 7 days |
| Uptime Pass Annual | One year, renewing yearly | 7 days |
Prices are shown in your own currency, on the paywall, before you buy anything. We do not print prices on this page because they differ by storefront and the App Store is the only accurate source for yours.
What it includes
- An automatic double Overnight Cache, applied silently, with no video to watch.
- A 50% larger offline cap, multiplying whatever the Patent Tree has already given you.
- 100 Chips a day, granted automatically the next time you open the game, with every missed day credited at once. There is no claim button, no streak and no check-in. Missing a day costs you nothing.
- That month's Desk Set, free.
- A patron mark on the Benchmark chart.
Every one of those is also reachable free, through the in-game Patent Tree and through rewarded video. A subscription buys convenience and time, not access. The WHAT MONEY BUYS screen in the shop lists the free route to each one and roughly how long it takes.
Billing, renewal and cancellation
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price for the same length unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
Cancel at any time in iOS Settings, under your Apple Account, Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not end the period you have already paid for, and you keep every benefit until that period runs out. The game never asks you to cancel through us and cannot cancel on your behalf.
The free trial is 7 days, once per Apple Account. It converts into a paid period automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends. If you buy a subscription while a free trial is running, the unused part of that trial is forfeited, which is Apple's rule and not ours.
Switching between the monthly and annual plans is handled by Apple as an upgrade or a crossgrade within the same subscription group, with any proration applied by Apple.
If it lapses
You keep everything you were ever given. Every Chip and every Etch carat you have ever received stays yours permanently, including the ones granted by the subscription itself, and every Desk Set it unlocked stays unlocked. Only the ongoing benefits stop: the automatic double cache, the larger offline cap, the daily Chips and the patron mark.
Purchased currency never expires. Not on lapse, not on inactivity, not ever.
5. Chips, Cycles, Patents and Etch carats
Chips are a premium currency that can be bought or earned. Cycles and Patents are earned only: they are not for sale at any price, and they never will be. Etch carats are cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay whatsoever.
All of these are a licence to use a feature inside the game. They are not money, have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for anything outside the game, and cannot be sold or transferred to another person or account. If we ever discontinue the game, section 8 applies.
6. Fair use of the game
The save file lives on your device and we are not going to pretend otherwise, so there is not much here. Do not modify the game to obtain purchases you did not pay for, do not attempt to defraud the ad networks with automated views, and do not use the game to break the law. Weekly Benchmark leaderboard entries that are obviously fabricated may be removed; nothing else about your game is affected if one is.
The Etch nameplate lets you engrave a name you type. Keep it something you would be comfortable seeing beside your leaderboard row. We may remove one that is unlawful or abusive.
7. The browser demo
The demo at megahertz.closiq.app/play is provided free and as-is, contains no purchases and no advertising, and is a portion of the full game. Its save is browser local storage and can be lost by clearing site data, by a private window, or by your browser reclaiming space. Treat it as a demonstration and not as somewhere to keep something you would miss.
8. Changes, availability and ending
Games change. We may update, rebalance, add to or remove parts of Megahertz. Two commitments limit that, and they are the ones worth writing down:
- We will not remove content you paid for while the game is operating. If something must change for legal or technical reasons, we will say so plainly in the release notes.
- The economy constants are frozen at worldwide launch. A run is pinned to the constants it began under, so a later change cannot reach a game already in progress.
The game is single-player and works offline, so nothing about it depends on a server staying up. If we ever stop supporting Megahertz, the version installed on your device keeps working for as long as Apple's operating system runs it, and we will give notice on this site before removing it from sale.
If we change these terms materially, the date at the top of this page moves and the change is described in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the game after that means you accept the new version.
9. Warranty and liability
Megahertz is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of data loss.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Closiq is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost progress or lost data, arising from your use of Megahertz. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us through in-app purchases in the twelve months before the claim, or ten Canadian dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law, including under the consumer protection legislation of your own country. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusions above, in which case they apply only to the extent permitted.
10. Apple
These terms are between you and Closiq, not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for Megahertz or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim that the app fails to conform to a warranty may be directed to Apple, who may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation for the app.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your own country of residence.
12. Contact
megahertz@closiq.app. It is the support address, the press address and the privacy address, and a real person reads it.
